Where in the UK are you? Drinking age in the states is 21, some leagues make theirs that because alot of derby events involve drinks. In the UK the age is 18 so that's not a problem! However theres probably a league near you so check it out before all the tedious work in starting a whole other one.

Hey, there, I am posting the Challenge scores from 2010 and realized, I'm missing some of them!

If you don't remember the score, can you tell me who won and lost for the THURSDAY Sport Center Challenges?
- Amazon vs Short Bus
- Gnomes vs Flamingos
- Banked vs Flat
- Frogs & Snails etc vs Sugar & Spice etc

I scanned the tweets for the rest of them, but I can't find a tweet for those games, so think we may have missed it during the con.

You can reply here but I will see it faster if you email me at planning@rollercon.com with a descriptive subject line, like "Gnomes beat Flamingos!" (or whatever happened).

THANKS!!

PLYOMETRICS WARM UP AND WORKOUT

Focus on posture and landing when performing these exercises. Keep your head vertical with your chin up. Keep your upper body vertical and swing your arms together to elevate your center of gravity or one at a time in coordination with your leg movements.

Lower extremity exercise examples are:
Jumps in place
Standing Jumps
Multiple hops and jumps
Bounding
Box drills
Depth jumps

The three stages in a good Plyo developmental workout are:
Preparation
Progression
Performance

You will need Cones, boxes and barriers for some of the exercises.

Take into consideration age, experience and athletic ability

The following are warm up exercises to help players warm up the muscle groups involved in the exercises. Players should not feel muscular strain but should feel the different muscle working.

WALKING QUAD STRETCH
Walk forward and with each step grasp the ankle and bring the heel to the butt and point the knee straight down. Hold this for a second then place the foot on the ground. Repeat with the opposite leg.

WALKING KNEE HUG
Walk forward and with each step grasp the shin and bring the knee to the chest

INVERTED TOE TOUCH
Bend at the waist but invert your left foot so the knee is parallel to the floor. reach down and attempt to touch the right hand to the left toe. Keep both knees locked and straight.

STRAIGHT LEG MARCH
Walk forward like Frankenstein with both arms at shoulder level, palms facing down. Attempt to kick the right foot up to touch the bottom of the palm of the right hand. Repeat with the other foot as you walk forward.

ANKLE POPS
Walk forward but place your left heel on the ground with your left toe pointing at a 45 degree angle. As you continue moving forward, roll from heel onto toe and pop up onto your toe. Repeat with the other foot.

BUTT KICKS
Bring the heel up to the butt as you slowly jog forward trying to keep your quads parallel to the ground at the height of your kick

HIGH KNEE RUNS
Bring the quad up parallel to the floor as you march or run forward

LUNGE WALK
Place your hands on your hips and step forward with one leg while touching the back knee to the ground. Stand and return to the start position and repeat with the other leg

ROTATION LUNGE WALK
Place your elbows at the same level as your shoulders and lunge forward. At the bottom of the lunge rotate the hips and elbow so the opposite elbow is directly over the forward leg. Return to the start position and repeat with the opposite foot.

LUNGE WALK
Step forward with your left leg and bend at the hips touching the palm of the hand to the outside of the left foot. Point your right arm to the sky and keep both legs straight as you bend forward and look up at your right hand. Return to the start position and repeat with the opposite leg and arm.

LOW SIDE STEPS
Squat down with your left leg going wider then shoulder width apart. At the same time step sideways to the left. Return to the Start position and continue stepping to the left. Repeat with the opposite foot.

LUNGE WALK WITH POP UP
Perform a normal Lunge, but instead of standing up, pop up to standing from the lunge rather then just standing up.

BALANCED LEG SWINGS
From a half squat position, trace a clockwise circle on the floor with your right foot bringing both feet together then shoulder width apart. Then trace a counter clockwise circle with your left foot.

LOW PUSH LATERAL
Stand with your left foot on top of the box. Step off the box 18-24 inches and onto the floor with just your right foot and then return both feet to the box. Repeat with the right foot.

REVERSE LUNGE POPUP
Step back into a Lunge and instead of standing straight up, pop up to standing.

The following are exercises intended to help strengthen player’s muscles as well as build muscle endurance and agility. Not all are intended to be done on skates but most will apply directly to skating.

SPLIT PIKE JUMP
Jump up and lift the legs up and out to each side. Attempt to touch your toes at the height of the jump then return to the start position.

SPLIT SQUAT WITH CYCLE
From a Lunge position, jump up and switch leg positions from front to back and attempt to kick your butt when bringing the back leg forward and land in the Lunge position.

DEPTH JUMP WITH 180 DEGREE TURN
Step off the box and land on both feet. Immediately jump up and do a 180 degree turn in the air landing on both feet facing the box.
*For added difficulty add a second box to jump and land on

DOUBLE LEG HOPS
Squat down and jump as far forward as possible. Immediately upon touching down, jump forward again. Do this in multiples of 3-5 jumps

LATERAL JUMP WITH SINGLE LEG
Jump up but push sideways to the left off the ground and land on your left foot. Immediately push off sideways to the right landing on the left foot again. Continue pushing off and landing on the left foot. Repeat with the opposite leg.

90 SECOND BOX DRILL
Jump onto the box, back to the ground on the other side, then back onto the box. Continue to jump across the top of the box for an allotted time. With each touch of the top of the box counting as 1

*30 touches in 30 seconds
start of training
*60 touches in 60 seconds
start of the season
*90 touches in 90 seconds
training season

ZIG-ZAG DRILL
Jump from one line to the other in a continuous forward motion for 10 meters taking off and landing on the same foot. At the end repeat in the opposite direction with the opposite foot.

SKIPPING AND POWER SKIPPING
Skip forward bringing the knee parallel to the ground.
*Bring the knee to the chest for Power skipping

SQUAT JUMP
Flex down in a half squat position and explode up as high as possible extending the hips, knees and ankles to maximum length as quickly as possible. Land and freeze in a half squat position
*progress from single response to multiple response by landing and jumping as quickly as possible without freezing working for maximum height with each jump

DOUBLE LEG BUTT KICK
Extend the hips for vertical height and at the height of the jump, tuck the toes up and pull the heels up slightly backwards into the butt. Quads should be parallel to the floor at the height of the jump.

KNEE TUCK JUMP
Dip to quarter squat and explode upwards. Drive the knees high to the chest and attempt to touch them to the palms of the hands. Return to half squat and freeze.
*For multiple response return to half squat and explode upwards as quickly as possible.

LATERAL BOUND
Emphasize distance and horizontal trajectory, allow the lead leg to do a counter movement, jump inward, shifting the weight to the outside leg for an immediate push off and extension while the lead shoulder and the knee dips and drives for distance. The lead foot will land first with the trail foot following to balance the landing. Repeat in the opposite direction.
*Immediately bound off the landing foot and drive off in the opposite direction quickly and powerfully. Continue back and forth 5-7 times.

INCREMENTAL VERTICAL HOP
Attach a rope at eye level and the other to the floor. Hop back and forth over the rope advancing up as high as possible bringing the knees to the chest each jump.

SIDE HOP
Set cones side by side 2 feet apart. Take off sideways over the first cone, landing and jumping with both feet then the second then back over the first.

BOX DRILL
Draw two lines on the floor so they intersect and form a cross. Number the boxes from top left from 1-4. Perform jumps from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 1-3, 2-4, 1,2,3,4, 1,2,4,3, and 4,3,2,1. Perform these with a partner with your partner doing whatever exercises is prescribed ( sit ups, crunches, push ups, plank) Do these for 30 seconds each. Later do for 45 seconds then 60 seconds telling players to focus on agility rather then speed.

The following are exercises intended to strengthen your core muscles ( abdominal)

SUPINE PEDESTAL
Facing the ceiling, place only your forearms and heels on the ground. Your body should form a straight line from shoulders to ankles.
Lifting from your hip, not your knee, raise your left leg as high as possible. Keep the leg long and maintain the pedestal posture. Repeat with the opposite leg for a prescribed amount of repetitions.

SIDE PEDESTAL
Place your left forearm and the outer edge of your left foot on the ground, then stack your feet, hips and shoulders so that your body completely faces the side. Your left elbow should be beneath your shoulder, and your torso should be in a straight line from shoulders to ankles and from nose to toes.
Raise your right leg as high as possible, keeping it long and maintain a straight torso. Do the prescribed amount of reps then switch to the other side.
*VARIATION* Support yourself on your hand rather then your elbow.

BACK-TO-BACK SQUAT
Stand back to back with your partner and interlock your elbows. make sure your feet are in full contact with the ground throughout the exercise.
Keeping back contact, bend your knees and lower your hips until they are below knee level. Push back against your partner to extend back up to the starting position.
*VARIATION* Do this with your back against the wall if there is no partner.

TOE-TO-TOE SQUAT
Face your partner and grab their wrist/hand with your right, his left hand/wrist with your left. Place the toes of both feet against the toes of your partner. keep full foot contact with the ground and your arms extended throughout the movement.
Bend your knees and lower your hips until your hips are below knee level. maintain leverage against your partner, extend back up to the starting position.
*VARIATION* Do this without a partner by holding onto a rail or bar at waist level.

DUCK WALK
Stand with your feet hip-width apart. bend your knees and lower your hips as if you were going to sit in a chair. keep your torso long and wide and your shoulders back.
Keeping this squat position the entire time, take a small step forward with your right foot, making sure that your whole foot takes off and lands fully and stays beneath your torso. take a step with your left foot, again lifting the whole foot.
*VARIATION* Walk backwards instead of forwards.

SINGLE ARM PUSH-UP
Assume a push-up position with one hand on a medicine ball or box. Your body should form a straight line from shoulders to ankles.
Lower your chest to the floor. Maintaining the pedestal position, push back up to the starting position, making sure to extend both arms fully.
*VARIATION* To increase the one-arm challenge, once you've pushed up, roll the ball over to the other arm and perform the next push-up. As you improve, you should be able to speed up to the point that the ball remains in the middle and the arms rapidly push back and forth.

DOUBLE-ARM PUSH-UP
Assume a push-up position with both hands on a medicine ball. Your body should form a straight line from shoulders to ankles.
Lower your chest to the ball. maintaining the pedestal position, push back up to the starting position, making sure to extend both arms fully.

SINGLE LEG SQUAT
Stand with your right knee bent, raising the foot behind you above knee level.
Keeping an upright posture and your right foot in full contact with the ground, lower your hips until your right knee touches the ground. Be sure the heel of the support foot never leaves the ground. Slowly return to the starting position.
*VARIATION*Once you're proficient at the free-standing version, try this movement flexed at the hip rather than at the knee.

Hi all! I had a blast watching the three pick-up bouts today on Freemont Street! I'm a local here and have a blast watching the Sin City Roller Girls and taking pictures when they let me.

I'm uploading the pics to my Smugmug gallery tonight and will post the links here as soon as they're up. If you see your picture and want the full-sized one, send me an email and I'll send it to you.

Today was a blast and I look forward to the return of Rollercon next year!

The itty bitty roster has 20 people on it already, and anymore would be too many for a 30 minute bout. You guys can bring a white shirt just in case a few don't show up, but as of right now there are 2 other alternates on top of the 20 roster.

Thanks,

I generally get excited TSA people when they see the xray of my skates in my carry on and I have a derby shirt on- they add two and two!!! I had one guy talk to me about skate surfaces because he used to work at a rink and was asking me about if there was men's derby and stuff.

It looks like you can bring some tools on the plane now on carry-on http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm but I don't know how they currently view skate tools as a couple years ago they would say stuff like - you might unscrew the plane with that tool!
