2010 Coaches (in alphabetical order):

Bonnie D.Stroir likes to coach the fancier derby moves and skate on a banked track. She’s the founder of the San Diego Derby Dolls, and likes to skate, coach, and refer to herself in third person. I said good day sir! Bonnie has coached every RollerCon since 2006, and has traveled as far as Canada (eh!), England (core blimey!), and New Zealand (kiwikiwi!) to coach for Blood and Thunder Camps; she lives for travel and derby. Above all else, her heart swells for the hybrid banked and flat track skating Derby Dolls in San Diego and Los Angeles. Bonnie is passionate about seeing roller derby become a pro sport, and has a special interest in learning/teaching skate skills and tricky moves.

Dirty Verde plays and assistant-coaches the Saddle Brats, Tucson’s Junior Derby travel team, and the Tenacious Teens, her Brats home team. Verde has attended Los Angeles & San Diego junior roller derby banked and flat track camps and been a featured skater in the Baby Doll Brawls. She guest-coached in San Diego, and regularly sneaks into as many adult scrimmages as she can manage. She practices on weekends with Dry Heat Derby, Tucson’s men’s team. Verde considers Trish & Ivanna her aunts, and has worked for Sin City Skates since 2008.

Ivanna S. Pankin and Trish the Dish are hardly ever seen apart, so why start now? They collided into each other in AZ Roller Derby as opposing team captains, played in the first ever modern derby interleague match vs Texas in 2004, and have been a pain in the derby ever since. They work together on the track for the San Diego Derby Dolls, off the track at Sin City Skates and RollerCon, have shared management duties for WFTDA, coaching duties for leagues on nearly every continent that boasts a team, and mic duties fairly regularly at karaoke. They currently captain the SD Derby Dolls Banked Track All Stars & Team Awesome, and play for the SD Wildfires and Vagine Regime. They heard that bets were being taken about how long their bodies could last, but seven years, three out of state moves, two foot surgeries and a knee reconstruction later, and they still claim no plans to retire.

Kitty DeCapitate is our token International Coach. She began life as a London Rollergirl in 2006, Captaining the Travel Team “London Brawling”, before moving back to Australia last year. She joined the Victorian Roller Derby League, who are currently “Number 1 in the Southern Hemisphere” after taking first place at the Great Southern Slam tournament in June. She has been Coaching for 3 years, her own league as well as Guest Coaching for leagues across the UK and Australia. She loves footwork, strategy and teamwork. She is a big dork when it comes to motivation and mental strength. Be aware that she WILL make you all put your hands in, and do a chant.

Razorslut is the nicest person in Los Angeles, and is outstanding at picking up new strategies and applying them. She’s been skating for the LA Derby Dolls since forever, pretty much, and has captained, coached and bench-managed her way into everyone’s hearts and minds. Slutty is currently working on a reproduction project outside of derby, but has taken time out of lying on her back to join Iron Maiven (star of such feature films as “Whip It!”) to drop some hard-earned blocking knowledge on her derby sisters.

Quadzilla L.K. has been a pro skater and derby player since you were in diapers. He is a featured skater in TV commercials, for pete’s sake. He’s coached modern derby clinics all over the US, UK and Australia, and coached seasons for Team Legit & the Oly Rollers. But his heart is in Rat City, where he’s coached since 2008. His day job is being awesome for Heartless Wheels. He plays for the Puget Sound Outcasts, Team seXY, and the Co-ed Cripplers. Quadzilla will whip out kick ass jam skater tricks at the slightest provocation; ask him.

I’m The Rev. Ive been skating for 30 years now. I started on Ice skates when I was 8 and skated quads until I moved to Hockey at age 16, skated Hockey for 4 years and then used fruityboots when the weather was nice and began playing , reffing and coaching Roller Derby in 2006. I have played in over 30 bouts and taught classes all over the world. I love Derby and want it to grow into something everyone can enjoy. I love Jujyfruits.

Smarty Pants started skating with the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls of Austin, Texas in May of 2003. Over the past 7 years she has skated for her home team the Holy Rollers, TXRD’s travel team the All Scar Army and the fantastic Vagine Regime. Smarty’s day job is coaching rowing on Town Lake in Austin. She started applying what she knows about coaching to derby in 2004 when she traveled to NYC to train the newly formed Gotham Girls. She has since trained LA Derby Dolls, Atlanta Rollergirls, and several leagues in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Smarty uses sport theory and common sense to teach derby strategy. When training skater skills such as agility, speed, transitions and stance she prefers to focus on the intricacies of each skater’s unique style. As a trainer she is sensitive to the needs of the athlete and well aware of the process of learning. While she prefers to have 3-4 weeks to train a league, she does enjoy shorter training sessions such as RollerCon. She takes the sport of derby very seriously and holds much respect for its growth, yet tries to create a relaxed and humorous learning environment.

Suzy Hotrod barely skated at birthday parties before she joined New York City’s Gotham Girls Roller Derby in 2004, (and she’s done pretty well for herself and you can too!) Suzy has won Gotham Girls League MVP award twice. She has off skates training experience in track & field, basketball, yoga, and weight training. Suzy has traveled to Alaska, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and New Zealand to teach roller derby. She is a member of the Gotham Girls Coaching Committee, has been a home team captain for 5 years, and is and an advice columnist for WFTDA’s Five on Five Magazine. She eats spinach and rides her bike to work everyday. PS Suzy has big guns, there I said it.
