Open Scrimmage Etiquette Everyone knows there’s a difference between open scrimmages and bouts, but sometimes its hard to put your finger on what it is.Open scrimmages are not “rules specific.” The scrimmages are played with the equivalent of street basketball rules compared to NBA. Maybe there will be refs. Maybe they’ll call penalties. But mostly you’re just going to skate around in circles and rely on your own judgement and a heapin helping of the Douchebag Rule. None of the “variations” to WFTDA rules will be likely to be important to anyone but refs analyzing the game for their own experience. Skaters will just be out there having a good time. The Douchebag Rule
Pretty simple: Don’t be one. If you’re not sure if doing something is a douchebag move – it probably is. Err on the side of not a douchebag.
Everyone Plays
There are two requirements: you have insurance and you have passed a minimum skills test.
New girls and vets, and everything in between.
Some simple examples of how not to be a Douche:
- Vets wail on each other BUT
- Vets don’t hit girls they don’t know til the unknown skater hits the vet first
- Open scrimmages are often about assists and offensive blocking more than giant earth-shaking hits, for that reason
