Scrimmages usually start with a wide range of skill sets, and get more advanced as the evening goes on. Scrimmages during big social events tend to be far less crowded and usually higher skill levels.
Scrimmages are co-ed, but skaters may request a single-gender pack for both teams on their turn. Both genders tend to be cool about it. Just ask ahead in line, let the refs know so they can notify the other team, and then wait your turn.
Juniors may not scrimmage with adults, unfortunately. Talk to the insurance ladies about that.

ABOUT OPEN SCRIMMAGES
At this point, most people have played in an open scrimmage before. But if you haven’t, here are some helpful tips:
- All skill levels are welcome, but its wise to watch and gauge the intensity level before jumping in
- if you’re not intermediate or advanced, don’t be shy about letting everyone in the pack know it. Your teammates will look out for you and the other team will be less likely to murder you.
- If you are intermediate or advanced, let strangers hit you first (so you know they can take it) before leveling them. Only d-bags pick on rookies.
- Likewise, if you hit someone, be ready to get hit back. Don’t say you’re new, throw giant blocks, and expect no reciprocation.
- Its okay to move back in line to go in with someone particular - but its not okay to jump forward in the line, especially when its long. The only exception is when the next jam group is ASKING for someone to play a particular position (usually a jammer).
- White usually has a shorter line.
- Jammers usually get to play more until everyone figures that out and starts being willing to jam
- You don’t have to be awesome to play any position. For example, many advanced players have as much fun offensive blocking for beginner jammers as they would in a jam with an advanced jammer.
- No one is judging you. No one cares. So don’t worry about doing good - HAVE FUN!
